A high-quality research workforce is essential for the development of Australia’s research and innovation systems. Support for the pipeline of researchers will be necessary for the research system to continue to deliver well into the future.
In response, ºÚÁÏÉç has initiated a sector-leading researcher development program that commences with HDR candidates and extends through to expert researchers.Â
The program is accessible to all researchers at ºÚÁÏÉç via the (login required).
Researcher Development Framework
A bespoke ºÚÁÏÉç Researcher Development Framework provides a structure for the training, resources and initiatives across the university for the benefit of researchers, as well as those who provide research support services.Â
At the top level the Framework sets out four domains, each with four sub-domains to provide a comprehensive profile of areas of development for researchers. For each sub-domain, Capability Statements – from Phase 1 to Phase 4 – describe increasing levels of expertise.Â
To support the implementation of the Framework, tools based on the Researcher Development Framework capability statements, are available for self-assessment or use with a supervisor or mentor to create a personalised Development Plan. The tools support the steps in the Researcher Development Cycle: Assess, Prioritise, Plan, Complete, Record and Reflect.
Graduate Researcher Development Program
ºÚÁÏÉç takes a holistic approach to developing HDR candidates. The Graduate Researcher Development Framework guides the training and resources that are provided for candidates to build depth in research skills and impact, as well as breadth in self development themselves and developing others.
Supervisor Development Program
An evidence-based training, registration and renewal process for supervisors ensures supervisory best practice at ºÚÁÏÉç. Regular training delivers the latest information in supervision and forums support peer-to-peer learning across disciplines.
Tailored Development Programs
Curated collections of workshops and resources are offered for researchers with specific development needs or goals. For example, the Research Boost program for researchers who wish to be updated on the latest information about conducting research at ºÚÁÏÉç and the latest practices in research.
Development Resources
ºÚÁÏÉç researchers have access to a wide range of resources to support their development which includes subscriptions to Epigeum, LinkedIn Learning, Nature Masterclasses and other providers.
Networks
Undergraduate students involved in research, HDR candidates, early career researchers and our research leaders are all part of ºÚÁÏÉç’s research community. The Researcher Development program provides opportunities for researchers at all levels to connect and supports the growth of professional relationships across ºÚÁÏÉç’s disciplines and campuses.
